Discipline 5 kicks off with the Triple Reverse Bank for shot 1A. The cue ball starts off going one way, then reverses to come back towards the center of the table. It’s closely related to the Three Rail Reverse and the Three Rail Squeeze shots. This shot can be near impossible if the rails are dead. Shot 1B is a 5 rail, resistance chain reaction shot. Good visuals with the balls popping off the chalks at the end. Shot 1C is the Backward Bank shot, which Stefano Pelinga opened with on ESPN Trick Shot Magic one year.
Shot 2A is an escape shot where the cue ball escapes out from behind a blocking ball and goes 3 rails to make the hanging ball. Shot 2B is the classic Hustler bank shot which Paul Newman made in the Hustler movie. Shot 2C is a pretty straightforward 3 rail kick shot, as long as you can get the balls to stack up on top of each other.
Shot 3A is the shot Christopher Walken made in the movie Poolhall Junkies on the first take! It’s a timing kick shot, just manage the speed of the object ball. Shot 3B looks like an escape shot, except the cue ball ends up kicking the object ball in the corner pocket. Adjusting speed, aim, and spin alters this one quite a bit. Shot 3C is a straight back double kiss shot. Keep a steady hand and straight stroke. No need to hit this too hard.
Shot 4A is called Michael Phelan’s challenge after he challenged readers of a newspaper or magazine with this. Adjust the cue ball to make the 4 rail bank, and put a good follow stroke on it. Avoiding the double kiss with the cue ball might be the toughest part of this shot. Shot 4B is a straight up 5 rail kick, but there is a helper ball so there’s a decent sized target. Shot 4C is another shot where the cue ball flies all around the table. The cue ball will still need running english coming off the last rail, so juice it up!
Shot 5A is the Ghost Ball kick shot, similar to a timing shot, but the double kiss is still quite a ways from the pocket. Shot 5B is another double kiss shot, except it happens right in front of the side pocket. You’ll need to know how to park your cue ball for this one. Shot 5C can be played with a thin cut or a double kiss on the 1 ball. Both the cue ball and 1 ball end up heading back up table towards the cue stick.
